“It is not uncommon for journalists to write their autobiographies. But it is very rare to find the anthologies of their contributions to magazines. It is a boon for us to have one such anthology on contributions of Bharathi, whom I still idolize in lot of areas. Similarly there could be lot of revelations, had we been able to collate the contributions of my other Tamil journalist predecessors like Thru.Vi.Ka, D.S Sokalingam, A.G. Venkatachari, Kalki etc.

It is usually unavoidable for a writer or as a matter of fact for any creator, to not lookback, to check if they have made any meaningful contributions so far. To me this collection is the outcome of my looking back.

My approach in all the avenues that I am working is to share intense and deep affairs to as many people as possible in a simple way, however not to dilute the weightage of the subject to share with many more.

When I go through my articles again now for this collection, it makes me personally happy to see that I have followed this approach in all my articles so far. It is never a purpose of a columnist to just leave creations that could endure ages. Actually, in a daily or a weekly journalism, it is only possible to write to reflect accurately the current state of affairs during that particular period, And for people to understand them later in the exact sense. In that way, I have also tried to reflect my time"

This is an excerpt from the preface by Gnani’s for his first book of collection of his articles named ‘Pazhya Paper’

It is fortunate that the journalist’s recordings of the bygone days didn’t just stay as his journal pages, but transformed into books, for his writings were not just words, but his search for light for the society in his days as well as for future. Like any other Gnani’s articles, even his books were welcomed by his readers with open arms.

His first book ‘Pazhya Paper’was released in 1993, thanks to the efforts of Late Mr.Pon.Vijayan from Sakthi Publications. Soon after, the book 'Marupadium' was published by ‘Gnanabanu’The first two volumes of the pages of ‘O Pakkangal’ were released by Ananthavikatan. Subsequently they were also published again by Kumudam Publications, KayalKavin, Kizhaku Pathipagam, Kalachuvadu Pathipagam and Gnanabanu Pathipagam.

The columns written by Gnani in the ‘India Today’ magazine have been released in the name of ‘Kandadhum Ketadhum’. ‘Arindhum Ariyamalum’, ‘Nerupu Malargal’, ‘En Vazhkai En Kaiiyil’ , ‘Maluvin diary’ etc are some of his noteworthy books.

Similarly, ‘Anumin Ulai Edhirpu’ ‘Sankaracharyar Issue’ etc were also released as booklets. Some of his plays, including ‘Balloon’, have also attained book formats. Similarly ‘Manithan Pathigal’ interviews of Gnani, his articles on Chennai city experiences and some of his travelogues have also been published as books.
