Gnani’s literary journey began with his first published story in handwritten magazine called ‘Vamban’ while he studied in Tambaram Madras Christian College.

He has written more than ten short stories in various magazines including Amuthasurabi, Anandavikatan, TV Ulagam, Dinamani Kathir, Dinamalar Deepavali Malar, Chennai reporter Sangam Magazine ‘Newsman’.

In addition, his short novel ‘Votuchavadi’ got published in Anandavikatan. His most important novel was ‘Thavipu’ which again was released by Anandavikatan in 1998. This novel evolved from his earlier short story by the name ‘Nation is not a diagram’.

He started writing a novel in the name of ‘Mogathai Kondruvidu’ in Dheemtharikida, which stopped midway along with the magazine.

Lot of his translated stories and poems have appeared in Dheemtharikida and Kanaiyazhi. He had also written few poems. A photographic poem he wrote has been published in ‘Ezhu Naatkal’.
